What is the meaning behind “Double Translation” ?

"Double translation" is one of the methods of checking the quality of translation.

It goes like this - first translate from English to Japanese, then translate the Japanese back to English. The final outcome in English should match the original as closely as possible in a quality translation job, although things are not that simple in reality.

The translating process is like hopping between two cultures - from ancient idioms to jokes in comedy shows in the 80's, from rhyming in kids songs to unique onomatopoeia for different kinds of food. Knowing those cultural backgrounds is a necessity of this job.

"Double Translation" strives to integrate into both cultures and provide a smooth translation experience.
